Exercise Physiologist

As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist at LIFT Inner West, Tim Bailey Coles has played a central role in shaping the clinic’s modern, evidence-based EP service. He works closely with the wider team while leading the systems and client experience that define LIFT’s approach to exercise therapy. His practice is grounded in high-quality research and supported by strong academic achievements, having graduating with High Distinction honors and receiving the Dean’s Prize for Academic Excellence from the University of Sydney.

Clients know Tim for his communication skills, empathy and ability to make complex ideas feel simple. He brings genuine curiosity to every case and takes time to understand each person’s goals, barriers and lived experience. This clarity helps clients feel supported and informed from the very first session, creating a foundation for behaviour change and long-term progress.

Clinically, he has developed strong expertise in chronic pain, aging populations, mental health, diabetes, cardiac rehabilitation and long-term athlete development. His goal is always to focus on what truly makes a difference, avoiding unnecessary complexity and helping people build confidence in their capacity to move well and live well.

Happy Patients

I saw Tim for a Foundation session to help me build back toward running. He quickly identified my weak spots and gave me practical steps to move from walking to running. The session was insightful and challenged me in new ways. I’m enjoying learning, getting stronger, and feeling more confident balancing strength training and running with Tim’s guidance.

Josh

Brianna and Kris are fantastic! Brianna provides amazing personalised 1 on 1 personal training and keeps you accountable. The team at Lift inner west genuinely care about their clients and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

Kristy

I’ve fallen into the trap of quick-fix two month challenges, only for them to fall apart when life gets in the way. Here, I’m slowly learning to be kind and patient with myself and start to build positive long term habits.

Tanya

I have been attending Lift Inner West and working with Brianna for almost 12months and it has completely transformed my life. I perform better in every domain of my life-work, relationships, sleeping, nutrition and more.

Maddison

I’ve now been working with Nigel for 3 months and continue to surprise myself at how much I’m improving. Nigel provides heaps of motivation and tailors the sessions to your interests and skill level. The space is also great, as it’s private, quiet and always in pristine shape.

Sophie

I was already quite active and working out before seeing Kris, but wanted to get professional advice and finetune my routines. Kris has definitely helped me do this and has been very responsive to me explaining my needs, quirks and goals.

Alexander

Thier personable approach to goal-setting and working with me to achieve these goals is different to my previous trainers. The steady, progressive sessions help avoid injuries, build core strength, and complement my running training brilliantly.

Steve

Lift is such a great and unique space for personal training. Kris has set it up so it feels intimate but results focused – doesn’t feel like your “typical” gym. Nigel, my trainer, is fantastic – he’s caring but will definitely push you! I’ve nothing but great things to say, and couldn’t recommend them enough.

Exercise Physiology
FAQs

What does an Exercise Physiologist do differently to a personal trainer?

Exercise Physiologists are university trained health professionals who prescribe exercise as a form of medicine, similar to how doctors prescribe medications. A personal trainer will be able to improve your strength, fitness and lifestyle. An Exercise Physiologist will be able to help you use exercise as a tool to prevent, manage or treat a wide variety of conditions both physical and mental.

Is Exercise Physiology the same as Physiotherapy?

Short answer, no. If you injured yourself, had surgery or something similar recently (less than 2 weeks ago) then a physiotherapist is best for acute care. For management of chronic diseases, longer term injuries/pain, mental health support and lifestyle management for complex cases then Exercise Physiology is right for you.

How much does Exercise Physiology cost at Lift?

$170 — 60 mins,
$127.50 — 45 mins,
$85 — 30 mins

Can I claim Exercise Physiology on anything?

Yes. Exercise physiology can be claimed as a part of the Medicare benefits scheme, private health insurance (if it is ticked in your extras cover), NDIS funding, Department of Veterans affairs and more. If you are unsure what you may be eligible for, contact Lift inner west or your general practitioner.
